What is ‘Moisture Wicking’ fabric, and how exactly does that work?
Basically moisture wicking means that moisture or sweat is soaked into the fibre, and then released shortly after. While you wear a garment made of moisture wicking fabric, your garment will feel dry even as you are sweaty from a heavy workout. This is also referred to as sweat wicking.

Is cotton fabric sweat wicking?
While cotton absorbs moisture, it does not release it. You may notice that cotton sweat pants absorb a lot of sweat, and keep it. The longer you wear them during your work out, the more wet and heavy they become. Therefore cotton is not considered as moisture/sweat wicking fabric.
Is there a treatment of finish you can give to cotton to give it sweat wicking features?
Even though some enhancements can be made, it’s very hard to make cotton sweat wicking. For sweat wicking features, other fibres are recommended.
What kind of fibres are moisture or sweat wicking?
Most polyamides and polyesters are moisture or sweat wicking. It’s in the nature of the nylon and polyester to dry quickly and give you that dry experience while doing work outs.
Is moisture wicking and expensive treatment?
Not really. Man made fibres such as polyamides and polyester have this as a natural feature. However different degrees of comfort and dryness are controlled by yarn quality, knitting way and treatment. The higher the comfort level, the higher the material costs.
Is moisture wicking new technology?
It’s not really new because polyamide and polyester garments have been around for a long time. However it’s become more popular in recent years for designers to specifically request it.
